Abstract
The propagation by softwood cuttings seems to be at many woody species a very perspective and economically useful method. In this experiment the propagation of the ornamental cherry species Prunus subhirtella var. autumnalis by softwood cuttings was carried out. The cuttings rooted with the percentages between 29 and 45% and they formed in average 10 or more roots. This good root growth resulted also in a strong vegetative growth in the rooting period. The propagation by softwood cuttings is in the case of this species assessed as very useful and perspective propagation method due to production of very vigorous and qulitative plants in a short period.
Key words: softwood cuttings, Prunus subhirtella var. autumnalis, mature phase.
